Forensic Context

A study in mice demonstrated that the circHOMER1 is upregulated in primary cortical neurons and multiple brain regions, including the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, ventral tegmental area, and nucleus accumbens, following methamphetamine exposure, where it is associated with methamphetamine-induced toxicity and conditioned place preference scores [Daws et al. DOI:10.1016/j.mcn.2023.103841]. The circHOMER1 is recognized as a synaptically-enriched circRNA that modulates structural changes at synapses during neuronal plasticity and development [Mehta et al. DOI:10.1016/j.pneurobio.2020.101746]. A study in humans and mice demonstrated that circHomer 1, a circular RNA, regulates neuronal plasticity and structural changes in the synapse during development [Sema Misir et al. DOI:10.1038/s41418-022-00948-7].
