A study in humans demonstrated that circNAPEPLD is significantly decreased in the peripheral blood of Alzheimer's disease patients and may be used to distinguish them from other dementia cases [Misir et al. A study in mice and humans demonstrated that circNAPEPLD is expressed in spermatozoa and specifically interacts with five miRNAs involved in cell cycle control, suggesting a role as a paternal-derived sponge for miRNAs inside fertilized oocytes [Di Agostino et al.
