Forensic Context

A study in mice demonstrated that circNUP107 is highly expressed in brain, cerebellum, pancreatic islets, heart, colon, lung, and stomach, where it regulates cell proliferation, migration, angiogenesis, and tumorigenesis [Misir et al. DOI:10.1038/s41418-022-00948-7]. A study in mice and human RWPE-1 cells demonstrated that cadmium exposure induces prostatic fibrosis by elevating the circNUP107, which functions as a molecular sponge for miRNA-1236-3p to subsequently activate the SHH signaling pathway, leading to increased epithelial-mesenchymal transition, primary ciliogenesis, and collagen deposition [Huang et al. DOI:10.1002/Jat.4436].
