A study in mice demonstrated that the circAP4E1 is highly expressed in early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, bladder cancers, and breast cancer, and its decreased expression in myocardial tissues and hypoxic myocardial cells is associated with improved cardiac function after acute myocardial infarction [Sema Misir et al. A study in humans identified the circAP4E1 as a down-regulated exonic circRNA co-differentially expressed in both plasma and lung tissue from patients with sepsis-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome [Guo et al. DOI:10.1016/j.lfs.2021.119566]. A separate review noted its involvement in multiple cancer pathways, including VEGF, angiogenesis, and HIF-1 signaling in osteosarcoma [Huang et al.
