A study in humans demonstrated that the circPOLE2 is a venous blood-specific circRNA marker, with expression restricted to blood samples, as part of a target RNA sequencing panel for body fluid identification [Yu et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2025.103416]. This panel, which included 135 RNA-SNPs across 42 genes, showed clear separation between body fluid types and successfully deconvoluted mixtures of 2–5 components, with the circPOLE2 contributing to a cumulative discriminatory power of 0.999993412 for venous blood.
