Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that circRASA3 is significantly upregulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of tuberculosis patients, where its expression correlates with disease severity and declines following treatment [Lee et al. DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2018.12.052]. A study in human neonates identified 296 differentially expressed circular RNAs in peripheral blood from asphyxia-induced acute kidney injury cases, with the circRASA3 being one of ten selected for initial screening where it was found to be downregulated (Fold Change = -4.26) based on high-throughput sequencing [Pan et al. DOI:10.1002/kjm2.12644].
