Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that circSPINK5 is significantly decreased in the peripheral blood of Alzheimer's disease patients and may serve to distinguish them from other dementia cases [Sema Misir et al. DOI:10.1038/s41418-022-00948-7]. A study in humans demonstrated that the circSPINK5 is expressed as both mRNA and circular RNA (circRNA) in vaginal secretions and was detected in all vaginal secretion samples using a multiplex assay [Liu et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Fsigen.2020.102312]. Its inclusion in biomarker detection did not impair specificity, though sporadic cross-reactivity in saliva was noted [Liu et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-019-02027-y].
