A study in human neonates identified 296 differentially expressed circular RNAs in peripheral blood from asphyxia-induced acute kidney injury cases, with hsa_circ_0008898 and hsa_circ_0005519 significantly upregulated and hsa_circ_0132279, hsa_circ_0112327, and hsa_circ_0017647 significantly downregulated, as validated by qPCR [Pan et al. DOI:10.1002/kjm2.12644]. High-throughput circRNA microarrays have been established as an efficient profiling tool in humans, capable of detecting thousands of circRNAs in tissue and plasma samples with validation by RT-qPCR and Sanger sequencing [Li et al. DOI:10.1093/bib/bby006].
