Forensic Context

A study in human embryonic stem cells demonstrated that the circBIRC6 controls pluripotency by sequestering miR-34 and miR-145 [Patop et al. DOI:10.15252/embj.2018100836], and it acts as a sponge for miR-34a and miR-145 to relieve the suppression of NANOG, OCT4, and SOX2 expression [Di Agostino et al. DOI:10.3389/fcell.2020.00389]. A study in humans demonstrated that the BIRC6 gene can generate hundreds of circRNA isoforms, and their expression changes during tumorigenesis can differ [Li et al. DOI:10.1093/bib/bby006].
