A study in mice demonstrated that knockout of the circCDR1 leads to decreased miR-7, increased miR-671, and elevated levels of miR-7 targets, resulting in excitatory and behavioral phenotypes [Patop et al. In neural tissue, the circCDR1 acts as a miR-7 sponge, and its downregulation in Alzheimer's disease brains is associated with dysregulation of the UBE2A and NF-κB/UCHL1 pathways, while its loss affects sensorimotor gating in Parkinson's disease models [Mehta et al. A study in humans demonstrated that the circCDR1 is significantly elevated in peripheral blood leukocytes of coronary artery disease patients, with an area under the curve of 0.71, a sensitivity of 0.85, and a specificity of 0.52 for diagnostic discrimination [Tian et al.
