A study in human coronary artery samples from a single autopsy case demonstrated that the circCOG2 was validated by qRT-PCR and Sanger sequencing, showing significantly subtler expression levels in the proximal and mid segments of the left anterior descending artery compared to the left main trunk, which had more severe atherosclerosis [Hou et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23552]. This circRNA is suggested to play a pathological role in coronary atherosclerosis and may serve as a diagnostic or therapeutic target for coronary artery disease.
