A review of human studies identified the miR-422a as being downregulated in burn hypertrophic scar and its derived fibroblasts compared to normal fibroblasts [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-422a was identified as a differentially expressed microRNA shared across two pairs of monozygotic twins, suggesting its potential role in distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003]. Furthermore, research in human thermal-induced skin injury identified the miR-422a as one of many dysregulated miRNAs associated with hypertrophic scar formation [Wang et al. DOI:10.1007/s00438-024-02183-w].
