Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-424-5p is downregulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with sacubitril/valsartan resistance compared to non-resistant patients after acute myocardial infarction [Su et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175547]. A separate review of human skin studies reported that the mir-424 is upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin and is also upregulated in venous ulcers versus normal skin and acute wounds [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A review of the literature identifies the mir-424 as a hypoxamiR that is upregulated in response to hypoxia and functions to stabilize HIF-1α, positioning it as a diagnostic biomarker for asphyxia deaths [Scopetti et al.
