A study in humans identified the miR-1228-5p as significantly downregulated in the plasma of patients with coronary artery disease compared to normal controls, ranking it among the top ten downregulated microRNAs [Zhong et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23020]. In a separate human study on acute myocardial infarction, the miR-1228-5p was also found to be a top downregulated microRNA in patient plasma, with qRT-PCR validation confirming its downregulation and an ROC analysis demonstrating its diagnostic value with an AUC of 0.716 [Zhong et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23099].
