Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-429 was downregulated in denatured dermis from deep partial thickness burn patients compared to paired normal skin, with a 0.0786-fold change [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. This finding was part of a broader review identifying 197 miRNAs associated with human wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, where the mir-429 was also reported as downregulated four days post-burn in deep partial thickness burn skin versus normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-429 was down-regulated in full-thickness skin excisional wound tissue, where it is mentioned as prohibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition [Wang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ajpath.2012.08.022]. In a separate study in rats, rno-miR-429 was found to be upregulated with a fold change of 4.16 in lung tissue at 24 hours after burn injury [Zhang et al.
