A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn, during wound healing, and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that miRNA expression profiles from blood samples can distinguish monozygotic twins, with 545 differentially expressed miRNAs identified across 18 twin pairs, including the mir-4298 which was shared across two pairs [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
