A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn, during wound healing, and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-433-3p is significantly upregulated in plasma from patients with plaque rupture compared to those with plaque erosion in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ygeno.2020.11.019]. A systematic review also identified the miR-433-3p as a biomarker of traffic-related air pollution component exposure, being associated with PM10, PM2.5, black carbon, ultrafine particles, and NO2 in human plasma [Kotsyfakis et al. DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2019.1652348].
