A study in human astrocytes demonstrated that exposure to 3 Gy proton radiation significantly down-regulated the mir-4516 in extracellular vesicles, with a fold change of -3.11, identifying it as a biomarker for neurological radiation injury [Gaines et al. DOI:10.1016/j.lssr.2021.11.001]. A study in humans demonstrated that plasma exosomal miR-4516 levels were significantly higher in patients with acute myocardial infarction compared to healthy controls and exhibited high diagnostic efficiency with an AUC of 0.9809, also showing a positive correlation with coronary lesion complexity [Liu et al. DOI:10.3892/mmr.2023.13010]. Separately, research in human astrocytes found that extracellular vesicle-derived miR-4516 was significantly down-regulated following exposure to 3 Gy proton radiation, identifying it as a potential biomarker for neurological radiation injury [Gaines & Nestorova DOI:10.1016/j.lssr.2021.11.001].
