Forensic Context

A study in rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) demonstrated that the mir-454 was identified as a dose-dependent marker, being significantly upregulated and one of 21 miRNAs significantly regulated in both genders at either dose over time following whole thorax irradiation, and it was validated by qRT-PCR showing upregulation at Day 6 compared to control [May et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-16316-x]. In human sepsis research, the mir-454 was part of a constructed ceRNA network, where it was predicted to interact with the core gene IL1R2, which is upregulated in sepsis patients and negatively associated with 28-day survival [Zhang et al. DOI:10.1186/s12920-023-01460-8]. In humans, a study of older monozygotic twins found that the mir-454 was positively associated with activity of daily living strength scores in cross-sectional analysis, suggesting improved physical function with higher expression [La Grotta et al. DOI:10.1016/j.mad.2025.112099].
