Forensic Context

A review of human miRNA profiling for forensic body fluid identification notes that the mir-1248 is considered a pregnancy-associated biomarker detected in maternal plasma [Silva et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Fsigen.2014.09.002] and is also reported as an age-related biomarker with significantly decreased expression in human serum with aging [Silva et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Fsigen.2014.09.002]; in a separate review of human skin biology, the mir-1248 was found upregulated in venous ulcers versus normal skin and acute wounds and downregulated six hours post-burn in heat-shocked skin epidermal stem cells [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100].
