A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like the mir-4726-5p showing altered expression in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A separate forensic study in humans established a multi-class support vector machine model for body fluid identification using 12 key miRNA markers, though the mir-4726-5p was not among the evaluated markers in this validated workflow [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2024.103180]. A systematic review of studies in humans, rats, mice, zebrafish, and macaques synthesized that the mir-4726-5p is downregulated in cocaine-exposed astrocytes and is part of the LINC01133-miR-4276-NDUFA9 axis [Occhipinti et al. DOI:10.3390/Ijms242317122].
