Forensic Context

A study in humans identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the mir-4748 being one of the miRNAs downregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-4748 was differentially expressed and shared across two pairs of monozygotic twins, as identified through miRNA microarray analysis of blood samples from 18 twin pairs, with the differential expression profiles validated by qRT-PCR for selected miRNAs, indicating its potential role as a biomarker for distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
