Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like hsa-miR-21 and hsa-miR-31 upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue and shown to promote keratinocyte proliferation and migration [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in mice demonstrated that chronic alcohol exposure induces hippocampal injury and learning impairment, with high-throughput sequencing identifying 208 differentially expressed miRNAs and 377 differentially expressed mRNAs, including the miR-488-3p which was downregulated in the model group and regulates ERLIN2 and EPHA5 [Du et al. DOI:10.3389/Fphar.2024.1377501]. In human AC16 cardiomyocytes, ethanol treatment upregulated miR-186-5p and downregulated its target XIAP, promoting apoptosis, while the miR-488-3p was identified as an ACM-associated differentially expressed microRNA [Liu and Yu DOI:10.3892/Mmr.2019.9953].
