A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific expression patterns in human skin tissue and cells post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-491-3p is significantly upregulated in the peripheral blood of patients with sepsis compared to healthy controls and shows a positive correlation with proinflammatory cytokine levels and TDAG8/TLR4 mRNA expression, with ROC analysis indicating high diagnostic value [Xu et al. Separately, research in human monozygotic twins identified the miR-491-3p as a differentially expressed microRNA shared across four pairs of twins, suggesting its potential role in distinguishing genetically identical individuals for forensic identification [Xiao et al.
