Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the miR-493-3p being upregulated in burn hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin and also upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue versus normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in human full-term newborns demonstrated that the miR-493-3p was downregulated in the plasma of asphyxiated newborns at 0–6 hours of age compared to healthy controls, as identified via next-generation sequencing [Lai et al. DOI:10.1016/j.pedneo.2024.05.002].
