A study in humans identified the miR-493-5p as upregulated in burn hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin and also upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue versus normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-493-5p was up-regulated during acute myocardial infarction followed by a decline after revascularization [Wang et al. DOI:10.1186/s40364-024-00690-x]. In a separate study in Wistar rats, the miR-493-5p was significantly down-regulated in skeletal muscle tissue three days after a severe burn injury [Zhang et al. DOI:10.5505/tjtes.2015.80707].
