A study in human cell lines and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) demonstrated that the miR-496 directly targets two cooperative sites in the mTOR 3' UTR, reducing mTOR mRNA and protein levels, as well as downstream phospho-mTOR and phospho-p70S6K signaling in transfected HeLa-K cells [Rubie et al.
