A study in humans with coronary artery disease identified the miR-4999-3p as a biomarker for recurrent myocardial infarction risk, where it was downregulated in whole blood of patients with recurrent MI compared to those without in a replication cohort, remaining significant after false discovery rate correction (FDR <0.1), though it was not significantly different in plasma samples [Onuoha et al.
