Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-500a-3p is upregulated in whole blood of patients with recurrent myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention, showing significant differential expression after false-discovery rate correction [Onuoha et al. DOI:10.1111/cts.13307]. In a separate forensic investigation, the miR-500a-3p was found to be differentially expressed and shared across three pairs of monozygotic twins, indicating its potential as a biomarker for distinguishing genetically identical individuals in forensic identification [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-500a-3p is upregulated with age in peripheral whole blood samples and was validated as an age-related miRNA using RT-qPCR [Wang et al. DOI:10.3389/fgene.2022.1031806].
