A study in human bloodstains using massively parallel sequencing identified the miR-501-5p as a microRNA with significantly reduced expression in bloodstains compared to fresh blood [Fang et al. In a separate study on human sepsis, the miR-501-5p was identified as a microRNA with expression significantly downregulated in the peripheral blood of patients compared to healthy controls [Xu et al. DOI:10.3892/mmr.2022.12850].
