Forensic Context

A study in human preterm newborns with early-onset sepsis demonstrated that mir-5010-3p was significantly up-regulated in cord blood plasma compared to gestational age-matched controls [Janec et al. DOI:10.14712/fb2023069050173]. A study in humans using massively parallel sequencing identified the mir-5010-3p as an absolute specific marker (ASM) for venous blood, demonstrating high specificity and expression in forensic body fluid/tissue identification [Liu et al. DOI:10.3390/genes13091530]. This biomarker was subsequently cited as a specific marker for venous blood in forensic applications, highlighting its role in RNA profiling for body fluid identification [Liu et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-025-03656-2].
