A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-503 was significantly increased in ischemic heart tissue three days after myocardial infarction induced by coronary artery ligation [Williams et al. DOI:10.1152/physiolgenomics.00041.2020].
