Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the mir-505-5p being one of many dysregulated in these processes [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-505-5p was significantly upregulated in serum from patients with mild traumatic brain injury at baseline compared to controls, with expression progressively reducing at 24 and 48 hours post-injury, establishing it as a sensitive and specific biomarker for monitoring the post-trauma period [Polito et al. DOI:10.1007/s11033-020-05386-7]. In rats, the mir-505-5p was significantly upregulated in myocardial tissue following burn injury, identifying it as a potential biomarker for myocardial damage [Guo et al. DOI:10.1080/09168451.2020.1807901].
