Forensic Context

A study in human patients with second-degree burns demonstrated that the mir-506 was downregulated in burn tissues compared to normal tissues, and its expression increased following treatment with an artificial skin membrane, correlating with improved wound healing and reduced fibrosis markers [Li et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.24564]. A review of human skin burns identified the mir-506 as downregulated in third-degree burn skin within 24 hours post-burn and in heat-treated human skin fibroblast cell lines [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. Separately, a time-series analysis of gene expression in human severe burn patients identified the mir-506 as a top miRNA with a high degree of connectivity in the sustained increasing gene (SIG) network during recovery, suggesting its role in the molecular regulation of the post-burn immunosuppressive state [Xu et al. DOI:10.1159/000493451].
