Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-507 is a stable and sensitive miRNA marker for semen identification, as quantitative RT-PCR confirmed its strong over-expression in semen relative to other body fluids and showed no significant degradation after one year of storage under laboratory conditions, with detection possible from subpicogram amounts of total RNA [Zubakov et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-009-0402-3]. A subsequent review further identified the miR-507 as a differentially expressed marker for semen identification in forensic body fluid analysis [Song et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-023-03091-1].
