A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn healing, and scarring, with specific dysregulation patterns observed in human skin tissue and cell lines post-thermal injury [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in human postmortem prefrontal cortex demonstrated that the mir-508-3p is down-regulated in schizophrenia (fold-change 0.48), bipolar disorder (fold-change 0.53), and major depression (fold-change 0.43) [Smalheiser et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0086469]. In a separate human study, a related isoform, miR-508-5p, was confirmed as an alcohol use disorder-associated miRNA in the amygdala [Lim et al. DOI:10.1038/s41398-021-01635-w].
