Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-126-5p was evaluated as a body fluid-specific miRNA marker for peripheral blood identification, showing the highest and most distinguishable expression levels in peripheral and menstrual blood compared to non-blood samples and was selected as one of 12 key features for a multi-class support vector machine classification model [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2024.103180]. A study in humans identified the miR-126-5p as significantly upregulated in the plasma of coronary artery disease patients compared to controls using RNA sequencing, and subsequent qRT-PCR validation in an expanded cohort confirmed its differential expression and demonstrated its high diagnostic efficacy with an area under the curve of 0.928 [Zhong et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23020].
