A study in humans identified the miR-518a-5p as a potential biomarker predicted to bind the upregulated circRNA hsa_circRNA_000368 in lung tissue and plasma from sepsis-induced ARDS patients [Guo et al. DOI:10.1016/j.lfs.2021.119566]. In a separate forensic investigation, a multi-class support vector machine model for body fluid identification was constructed using qPCR, which achieved 98% accuracy on an independent test set and demonstrated utility on aged casework samples, though the miR-518a-5p was not among the 12 key miRNA markers selected for this validated classification model [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2024.103180].
