A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific expression patterns in human skin tissue and cells post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A systematic review of human studies found that the miR-532-5p is a biomarker of traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) exposure, showing a negative association with TRAP intensity in plasma [Kotsyfakis et al. DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2019.1652348]. In a separate experimental study in mice, chronic alcohol exposure induced hippocampal brain injury and learning impairment, which was associated with an upregulation of the miR-532-5p that regulates KRAS [Du et al. DOI:10.3389/Fphar.2024.1377501].
