A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like the miR-556-5p showing altered expression patterns in human skin tissue post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. A study in humans demonstrated that miR-556-5p was among the top ten upregulated circulating miRNAs in patients with acute myocardial infarction compared to non-AMI controls, as identified through RNA sequencing and validated by qRT-PCR [Zhong et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23099].
