A study in humans identified the mir-557 as significantly upregulated, showing a 9.60-fold increase in denatured dermis from deep partial-thickness burn patients compared to paired normal skin [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A subsequent review confirmed this finding, reporting the mir-557 was upregulated in human deep partial-thickness burn skin four days post-injury [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100].
