A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-1273h is differentially expressed in peripheral blood between monozygotic twins, as identified by miRNA sequencing and validated by droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), which showed superior recognition accuracy for distinguishing individuals [Wang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2025.103230]. A separate pilot study in humans found the mir-1273h to be hypermethylated in the postmortem nucleus accumbens of subjects with alcohol use disorder compared to controls [Liu & Zhang DOI:10.3390/genes13060958].
