A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-597 was significantly decreased (0.628 of control) in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide subjects [Smalheiser et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0033201], while a separate human study found it was upregulated (4-fold increase) in the urine of farmworker adults during the post-harvest season and showed a positive dose-response trend with organophosphate pesticide metabolites [Weldon et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Taap.2016.01.018].
