A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-1284 is significantly positively correlated with age in peripheral blood, showing a positive correlation in a microarray cohort (array correlation 0.259) and being validated in a high-throughput sequencing cohort (NGS correlation 0.387, P value 0.003) [Meder et al. A study in humans using massively parallel sequencing identified the mir-1284 as an absolute specific marker for venous blood, demonstrating high specificity across all pairwise comparisons and moderate expression levels [Liu et al.
