A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like the mir-661 showing altered expression in human skin tissue post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A separate forensic study in humans established a decision algorithm using four miRNAs, including hsa-miR-891a-5p for semen and hsa-miR-144-3p for blood, which correctly identified 9 out of 10 blinded body fluid samples and was effective on aged specimens [Sauer et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2016.01.018]. A study in humans demonstrated that mir-661 was identified as a potential target of exo-circ-0020887 and exo-circ-0009590 through bioinformatics prediction [Wang et al. DOI:10.1515/med-2023-0807].
