A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like the miR-6727-5p showing altered expression in deep partial thickness burn skin compared to normal skin at defined post-burn timepoints [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in human lymphoblastoid AHH-1 cells and ex vivo irradiated human peripheral blood lymphocytes demonstrated that the miR-6727-5p is dose-dependently upregulated at 24 hours post-irradiation (0-8/10 Gy) in AHH-1 cells and at both 4 and 24 hours in lymphocytes, establishing it as a validated component of a six-miRNA signature for the early screening and assessment of radiation-exposed individuals [Song et al. DOI:10.3390/life10120361].
