Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like the mir-6875-5p showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. In a separate human study investigating coronary artery disease, next-generation miRNA sequencing of whole blood identified numerous miRNAs, including the mir-6875-5p, as differentially expressed in patients with recurrent myocardial infarction, with whole blood being a more effective sample source than plasma for such profiling [Onuoha et al. DOI:10.1111/cts.13307]. A study in humans identified the mir-6875-5p as a prognostic biomarker exhibiting an area under the curve (AUC) greater than 0.75 for overall survival prediction in acute myocardial infarction patients [Wang et al. DOI:10.1186/s40364-024-00690-x].
