A study in humans developed a targeted RNA sequencing protocol to predict the time-of-day of bloodstain deposition using 69 candidate mRNA markers, achieving a root mean squared error of 3 hours and 44 minutes with 78% of predictions correct within ±4 hours via five-fold cross-validation [Gosch et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Fsigen.2025.103287]. mir-6883 was identified as a candidate in previous whole transcriptome sequencing but was not included in this study's targeted panel as it required a different sequencing approach.
