Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-758 was among the most up-regulated miRNAs (fold changes between 3 and 5) in the gastrocnemius muscle of young sham animals compared to adult sham animals, indicating a significant age effect on its expression [Song et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-26040-1]. In a separate study in rats, rno-miR-758 was persistently up-regulated (>1.5-fold) in the hippocampus at 1, 3, and 5 days following traumatic brain injury, identifying it as a potential marker for TBI progression [Sun et al. DOI:10.1007/s11596-014-1313-1].
