A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-765 is significantly upregulated in denatured dermis from deep partial-thickness burn patients compared to paired normal skin, with a 36.22-fold increase measured by microarray and validated via qRT-PCR [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. This biomarker was also found to be upregulated in burn hypertrophic scar tissue versus normal skin in a comprehensive review of human miRNA expression post-burn [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A meta-analysis of human studies demonstrated that the mir-765 is detected in substantial plasma quantities in severe TBI patients and has high diagnostic value [Zhou et al. DOI:10.7150/ijms.48214].
